Winter, the cold and all it's annoying gifts that come along with its misery. Unlike most Canadians, I hate the winter. It's extremely cold, sub zero temperatures are real issues that are impossible to resolve. Don't get me wrong, I love a cold, snowy Christmas day, and spending time with family, but I can do without the cold weeks before Christmas, they’re just a nightmare. I take no pride in being apart of a season where you rarely see the sun, and it always feel like its nighttime. What sane person want’s to live somewhere where it gets dark early, it’s grey and gloomy during the day, and to top it off, it’s frizzing cold and tones of snow. I feel at times that I'm losing my mind in the winter months. The cold makes me emotionless, and at times, very short tempered. I need to dress like an Eskimo everywhere I go. At times wearing two pairs of pants, a shirt, sweater, winter jacket, gloves and a toque. This is crazy compared to a warm climate country, where you can wear shorts and a t-shirts 365 days a year. Yes, they don't get snow, but who needs snow when you have the sun and warm weather. During the winter months, I spend too much time drinking warm beverages, and sitting 2 feet from the fireplace. It's a struggle living life during the winter months, especially when your car has been parked outside all night. Having to wait either 15 minutes for it to warm up, or suffering when you’re running late, and you have to sit in that freezer on wheels. I think the only good thing about snow is having it on Christmas morning, and having a snow day. Snow days are the best, you sleep in and are assured that you won't be in trouble for not going to school. In conclusion, life would be much better with out winter and all it's awful baggage that comes along with it. Winter is the season of misery and constant annoyances that I have no control over.
Very humourus blog! I just hate being outside in the cold. The freezing wind and snow in my face, my soaking wet boots and the fear my toes and face will fall off from the extreme temperature drop just suck! Yet again, imagine those living in much colder climate!
ReplyDeleteLike you said, I love when there's a storm and we get to miss school, or when the roads are much too slippery for the buses to be running - that's one of the best things about winter! I love being inside for winter, snuggled up in a warm blanket and watching holiday movies knowing I don't have to be in school.
I still do love the winter season, though. Coming from a warmer country (Lebanon, where I lived for the first seven years of my life) and living in Egypt for a while, it's nice to see such a beautiful change in the weather.
Speaking of Egypt, it's actually snowing there for the first time in 112 years - can you believe it? It's snowing in Cairo! A DESERT!

Great post, Chris!
Yes winter is the worst! I couldnt even imagine coming from a warm country to this cold gloomy province. Adjusting to the cold after a few mounths of Fall is bad enough as it is. I find myself wondering how much easier life would be if cold weather was non assistant.
DeleteThis is funny, considering all the snow we got yesterday. I had always been a fan of snow but as I get older I just get more annoyed with it. For example, being at work and having to shovel the snow for three hours straight, everything would just be better if it was just warm out. Although snow brings a festive spirit alive, as you were saying. It is always nice to have a white christmas, whenever that happens around here.
ReplyDeleteI agree shovelling the snow for a few hours is a complete nightmare. Especially if you're shoveling you're own driveway for no pay. What satisfaction do people get out of wasting their time on something that is so time consuming, painful and will be back to the same level tomorrow.
DeleteSnow is definitely one of the most annoying things in the weather. Having to go outside and shovel the snow is also the worst. For those of that don't drive yet having to go out to the bus stop and waiting every morning can be a brutal experience, especially if you have to walk over 5-10 minutes or wait a long time. Winter definitely is a tough season to go through for Canada.
ReplyDeleteYes, walking in the snow is a nightmare. Its not like the movies where everyone is happy singing to Christmas tuness with a nice cup of hot chocolate and the snow isnt melting you're face. I would like to see the movies add in slush, bad drivers and shoes that get wet after 10 minutes of walking.
DeleteI love this blog, because I can finally come to agree with something you say! LOL. Just Kidding, but this blog is defining me perfectly. I hate the cold, and winter. It's such a hassle when I have to worry about wearing gloves, a scarf and a big jacket. I rather just go out with flip flops in the summer, than boots in the winter! On top of that, I have to shovel the snow on my drive way, which is definitely not fun. Humorous blog, and I completely know how you are feeling.
ReplyDeleteI love the cold and winter! The only thing I don't like is how many gifts I have to buy ! It seems like I make all this money and it disappears in one day because of christmas! I really do enjoy snowboarding and hockey though!
ReplyDeleteI agree I mean the snow is nice to look at from inside my house but once I step outside I wish it would just become summer but then again we do live in Canada so I guess we all have to put up with it for now.
ReplyDeleteThe cold weather is what makes Canada, Canada. And every hoser in the country should love it, seeing as it takes up most of the year. the best part about winter is getting together with some friends and playing some pond hockey. Chris embrace the cold and maybe you'll like it a little more :)
ReplyDeleteI both love and hate the cold at the same time. I'm with you when it comes to shovelling, scraping your car, etc. but I love tobogganing with the family, building a snowman, etc. I guess you have to take the good with the bad.
